| Welcome. |
Welcome to the Atheist Network. The Atheist Network has been around for more than 7 years. Originally created by Jake (www.afterfaith.com) and The Infidel guy (www.infidelguy.com), it has a large, tight knit and thriving atheist community, that never plays soft and never apologizes for it. The Atheist Network was created with the idea that only through HONEST exchange of ideas and information can we all break free of theistic influences. It's not a bashing board nor is it a brainiac board but rather a community of atheists as diverse as nature itself. We welcome all atheists to come and join the fun.
We are currently revamping our audio feed and we are currently looking for new content to play. We are putting the call out to all atheists who are in bands, are poets, have songs of their own, have been in live recorded debates, like to create audio plays, or would like to create a show of their own.
If you have some content that you would like to share with the world, please contact us at radio _at_ atheistnetwork _dot_ com. If you would like to join an atheist community where honesty is key, then this is the place for you.

Vegetarian diet weakens bones
SYDNEY (AFP) – People who live on vegetarian diets have slightly weaker bones than their meat-eating counterparts, Australian researchers said Thursday.
A joint Australian-Vietnamese study of links between the bones and diet of more than 2,700 people found that vegetarians had bones five percent less dense than meat-eaters, said lead researcher Tuan Nguyen.
The issue was most pronounced in vegans, who excluded all animal products from their diet and whose...

(The Politico) This story was written by Jonathan Martin.
A hard-hitting piece on Sarah Palin in the new Vanity Fair has touched off a blistering exchange of insults among high-profile Republicans over last year’s GOP ticket - tearing open fresh wounds about leaks surrounding Palin and revealing for the first time some of the internal wars that paralyzed the campaign in its final days.
Rival factions close to th...

This story has been all over the British press today - this article is from the Telegraph.
Researchers who studied tens of thousands of Britons over more than a decade found that vegetarians were 12 per cent less likely to contract cancer than their meat eating counterparts.
With a third of the population developing cancer in their lifetime, changing diets could result in more than two million people avoiding the disease altogether, said the researchers.
For some cancers like leukaemia, s...

Darwin Killed Off the Werewolf
ScienceDaily (June 30, 2009) — It was Darwinian theory that did away with the werewolf. For much of recorded history, humans have reserved their greatest fears for dog-human hybrids like the werewolf. These beasts were once thought to be real, hiding behind every tree waiting for the unsuspecting traveler.
But, argues Brian Regal, assistant professor of the history of science at Kean University in Union, New Jersey, USA, the publication of Charles Darwin’s ...

WHEN schoolchildren break up for their summer holidays at the end of next month, India Jago, aged 12, and her brother Peter, 11, will be taking a vacation with a twist.
While their friends jet off to Spain or the Greek islands, the siblings will be hunting for imaginary unicorns in Somerset, while learning about moral philosophy. The Jagos, from Basingstoke, Hampshire, are among 24 children who will be taking part in Britain’s first summer camp for atheists.

The Tech Lab: John Pethica
Dr John Pethica, chief scientific advisor at the UK's NPL writes about the promise, and pitfalls, of nanotech.
As someone who has commercialised new science in nanotechnology to build successful companies, I sometimes get asked what is the next "big thing" to look out for.
The way we think about nanoscience has only really been fully formulated in the last decade so it is still a bit early to see a l...

Giving up my iPod for a Walkman
When the Sony Walkman was launched, 30 years ago this week, it started a revolution in portable music. But how does it compare with its digital successors? The Magazine invited 13-year-old Scott Campbell to swap his iPod for a Walkman for a week.
My dad had told me it was the iPod of its day.
He had told me it was big, but I hadn't realised he meant THAT big. It was the size of a small book.
